YouTube is making it harder to monetize

pexels-photo.jpgA month or so ago YouTube announced changes to it’s policy on creator accounts that can be monetized.   This is a 180 switch from YouTube’s previous policy, which only required channels to have 10,000 lifetime views.  This change makes it harder for the smaller channels to meet the criteria to monetize, and even a bigger uphill battle for those just getting started.

The minimum bar is that you now need 1,000 or more subscribers PLUS you need your video content to be watched at least 4,000 hours in the past 12 months.   Some new  creators will find that it takes a long time to attain that level unless you are able to get some viral content going.    If not, it’s going to be a slow process in getting there.

This change was not unexpected one, as YouTube continues to face criticism from advertisers that it has not done enough to vet content.  But YouTube just cant win because now it’s facing criticism from creators who now do not meet the new criteria.

Gaming Computer Reviews

Who doesn’t love a good gaming computer?   We tested three, an Alienware 17″ laptop, the Lenovo Legion 15″ laptop and the Lenovo Ideacentre all in one.   For your money, Lenovo does nearly as good a job as the Alienware, although Alienware still seems to be the “Flagship” brand everyone gravitates to.

Which one will you buy?   If we could only buy one gaming computer, I think it would be one of the Lenovo systems.  The Ideacentre all-in-one is more powerful, but not very mobile obviously.  If you needed to travel with your computer then the laptop for sure.

Jewelry Reviews

Jewelry is one of my favorite things to receive and review.   It doesn’t necessarily have to be just necklaces or rings (although I like those).  It could also be functional, like this aroma therapy bracelet for instance:

Or even high-tech like this bluetooth connected watch:

But traditional jewelry is always good too:

Even men’s watches, it’s all good!

Tents review

I like doing tent reviews.   Gives me a chance to time myself putting them up, but also gives insight as to how easily they go up to others.

When looking for a tent, you need to consider:

  • How many people will use this and how much stuff also needs to be stored in it?
  • Will it fit my air mattress or cot?
  • Is this tent good for colder weather (thicker/more insulating)?
  • How much ventilation does this tent have?
  • How waterproof is this tent?  Does it come with a rainfly?
  • How easy is this tent to assemble and collapse?
  • How much room does this take up when it’s collapsed?
  • Is this easy to carry around when hiking?
  • How sturdy is the floor, will it rip easily?
  • Do they include a carrying bag that is big enough to easily fold the tent back into?
